Waxed canvas fabric's finish makes it water repellent and helps increase the life of the material. Our 10 oz. Chocolate (Brown) waxed canvas is a very popular color, and is ideal for many projects. Its a durable, multipurpose canvas that is woven with a tight, plied yarn weave construction. Benefit? It's super strong and resists tearing. The refined wax finish gives extra protection against rain and moisture.
You probably know that waxed canvas is popular, but if you haven't worked with it you might not know why. One reason is that it will maintain its appearance with only minimal care. It generally doesn't need to be washed, and the non-toxic, non-hazardous wax formula works great in both hot and cold temperatures. We often get comments like "it sews great!" The wax is very high quality and will not transfer to other surfaces under normal use.
Customers often use waxed canvas to make outdoor gear, backpacks, tote bags, hats, equestrian accessories, vests, dog gear, dog beds, work aprons ... just to name a few.
Waxed canvas is known for its long lifespan, and it's a lot like leather in the sense that it patinas and wears over time. With normal use, it will develop 'craze marks' or wrinkles. This is to be expected and is part of the unique, highly-desirable characteristics of waxed canvas. These marks can be reduced with the heat from a hair dryer, though most people prefer the 'worn' look, the 'character' that waxed canvas develops with use.
